so. It seems both of my hard drives on my desktop are failing.

My secondary drive, the storage Terabyte drive, is pretty much dead. When i tried to start windows this morning with it activated (had to disable it in the bios for it to not freeze), it says "file record 5084 is unreadable". Looking online, that seems to be a death sentence. Anyone know of any software i can use to try and salvage some data when I get a replacement?

As for my main drive, it's still loading.. but it just took 2 boots to do so, sometimes freezes before windows loads (after the windows logo with the scrolling load bar. it goes blank as it usually does before loading, but doesn't go further).

Any software that can do a bit-for-bit copy of a disc while tolerating faults will save most of your data. I use Disk Rescue II (a Mac app).

I've used ddrescue (A Linux app) to salvage data. It works out well.

Though it is odd that both your disks are failing. Are they the same manufacturer at the same time? Not necessarily the same type...

Is the terabyte drive a Seagate 7200.11?

(If so, I had a similar problem, but I thought it was the motherboard. I swapped for another I had and it's plugging along for the moment. I'm hoping I can get the firmware updated, but seagate hasn't released the file yet.)
